Muay Boran ist eine traditionelle thailändische Kampfkunst und gilt als Vorläufer des modernen Muay Thai (Thaiboxen). Sie bildet den waffenlosen Bestandteil des historischen Krabi Krabong, der traditionellen Waffenkunst Siams bzw. Thailands.
Muay Boran eignet sich sowohl zur Verbesserung der körperlichen Fitness als auch zum Erlernen wirkungsvoller Selbstverteidigungstechniken. Das Training vermittelt die Grundlagen systematisch und legt den Schwerpunkt auf eine saubere Technik sowie eine praxisnahe Anwendung.
Im Unterricht werden die klassischen Grundtechniken (Mae Mai und Luk Mai) ebenso vermittelt wie weiterführende Techniken der sogenannten „neun Waffen“: zwei Fäuste, zwei Ellbogen, zwei Knie, zwei Füsse und der Kopf.
Ergänzt wird das Training durch lockeres Sparring, Partnerübungen, Pratzentraining sowie Elemente aus dem Thai-Yoga und Meditationstechniken. Dadurch werden neben den kämpferischen Fähigkeiten auch Koordination, Beweglichkeit, Ausdauer und Konzentration gefördert.
